Week of 10/2

9/29/2017

Dear Sun Room  Families,

We have had an excellent start to the school year! Everyone in the Sun Room separated easily! The children have been busily playing and getting to know their teachers, new routines and classmates. This group walks into the classroom ready for the day. It is going to be a fantastic year.

Here are a few highlights from the past weeks.

Classroom Activities
  • Socialized, socialized, socialized!
  • We painted our attendance suns which we have since been using every morning at circle time.
  • We used watercolors to decorate our placemats that we use for snack every day.
  • We made collages out of different shapes of our school Montclare!
  • We made Fall leaf collages with tissue paper, cellophane and glitter which are on display on the hallway board.
  • We had an apple taste test to see who likes red, green or yellow apples best. Then, we charted the results and counted the names that each color apple had under it.
  • We used apples that were cut in half to make beautiful prints in yellow, red and green which are going on our inside bulletin board.

Songs We Sang
  • We learned our Sun Room routines including the "Hello Song", "Clean Up Song", "5 more minutes to play Song"  and  "Goodbye Song".
  • We learned each other's names by singing “A Name Song” (sung to the tune of “The Muffin Man”). “[Daphne]’s name begins with [D], Begins with [D], begins with [D]. [Daphne]’s name begins with [D] [D,D,D,D].
  •  "Apples, Apples" sung to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"
  •  "I See Leaves" sung to "When The Saints Come Marching."

Books We Read
  • Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons, by Eric Litwin
  • Owl Babies, by Martin Waddell
  • Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf, by Lois Ehlert
  • The Fox and The Falling Leaves, by Julia Rawlinson

As always, we recommend playdates, both group and one on one. The one on one playdates can really cement new friendships. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Daphne, Stephanie & Jessica
