Week of 10/23

10/27/2017

Hello Sun Room Families!

The Sun Room is all about Halloween this week! We are decorating our room, singing Halloween songs and carving pumpkins.

Here are a few highlights from the past weeks.

Classroom Activities
  • Socialized, socialized, socialized!
  • We painted, collaged and sparkled one eyed green monsters for our Halloween bulletin board inside the classroom.
  • We examined our classroom pumpkin and carved it together.
  • We used peg boards to make interesting designs, structures and patterns.
  • We got new 'attendance suns' with only our written names on them to learn what our written name looks like.

Songs We Sang
The "Stirring and stirring and stirring the brew." chant has become our favorite thing to do at circle.

We sang:
"October Song" (sung to the tune of "Skip to My Lou")
Pick, pick, pick a fat pumpkin
Pick, pick, pick a fat pumpkin
Pick, pick, pick a fat pumpkin
October brings the harvest!

Tomatoes, corn and apples too...
We'll have a feast when we are through
Now I am hungry - How about you?
October brings the harvest!

"Do You Love Halloween?" (Sung top the tune of "Do Your Ears Hang Low?"
Do you love Halloween?
When you dress up to be seen
You can be a furry cat
Or a silly flying bat
You can walk down your street
Knock on doors, say 'trick or treat'
Do you love Halloween?

Books We Read
  • The Old Lady Who Was Not Scared Of Anything, by Linda Williams
  • The Halloween Play, by Felicia Bond
  • Black Cat Creeping, by Teddy Slater
  • It's Pumpkin Time!, by Zoe Hall

Housekeeping

  • On Tuesday, October 31st, your child can come to school dressed in their costume for Halloween. We will go trick-or-treating around the school (no candy, just toys).  If your child does not want to wear his or her costume that's totally fine.
  • We will provide the trick-or-treating bags.
  • Parents/caregivers feel free to come in the morning and take pictures, if you'd like, at the beginning of class for a few minutes.
  • We will include photos from the day on Weebly.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
