Hello Sun Room Families!

As you have heard, no doubt, we welcomed a new student into the Sun Room, Yurino Watanuki! Her family recently moved to New York City from Japan. Yurino is learning English, our routines and her teacher's and friend's names. Thank you in advance for making the Watanuki family feel welcome and included in the Sun Room extracurricular activities.

Classroom Activities
  • We finished our Eric Carle insect collages which now hang on our outside bulletin board.
  • We used markers at the art table to make beautiful pictures.
  • We watercolored with Yurino who was making her placemat.
  • We started decorating our Croc masks for the Croc Crawl next week.

Books We Read

  • I'm Not Cute, by Jonathan Allen
  • Katie Loves the Kittens, by Jon Himmelman
  • Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons, by Eric Litwin

Week of 4/9

4/13/2018

Hello Sun Room Families!

We have had a great return to school!

Last week, we discussed our vacations and got back into our routine. We started to talk about Spring even though it did not feel like Spring at all outside. We tried some fun, messy sensory projects with cooked spaghetti, paint and scissors in the classroom.

This week, we had Music Assembly. We started talking about insects. We read stories about insects by Eric Carle. We did a multi-step project assembling insects of our own that used Eric Carle's collage techniques.

 Classroom Activities
  • We cut cooked spaghetti with our scissors, exercising our fine motor cutting skills.
  • We mixed cooked spaghetti and paint with our hands. We color mixed yellow paint and red paint with the spaghetti to make orange spaghetti and yellow paint and blue paint to make green spaghetti. It was a lot of fun.
  • We had a "Free Play Friday" where we had an extra long time to free play. This included easel painting and huge lego convention on the rug.
  • We had a school wide Music Assembly where we all sang songs that we know from music. It was a lot of fun and we all participated.
  • We started reading Eric Carle's stories about different bugs including fireflies, caterpillars, lady bugs and spiders.
  • We started preparing shapes for collaging and collaging our own versions of bugs in the style of Eric Carle.

Books We Read

  • Chickens To The Rescue, by Jon Himmelman
  • Spring Things, by Bob Raczka
  • The Very Busy Spider, by Eric Carle
  • The Very Lonely Firefly, by Eric Carle
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle
  • The Very Clumsy Click Beetle, by Eric Carle

Songs We Sang

  • "Shu Fly Shu"
  • "Isty Bitsy Spider"
  • "It's Raining, It's Pouring"

Please reach out to me with any questions!

Have a great weekend,

Sun Room Teachers
