We had a fun and exciting week here in the Sun Room. Take a look below at what we have been up to.

Books we read:
  • Bear Stays up for Christmas, by Karma Wilson
  • Jingle Bells, illustrated by Darcy May
 
Songs we sang: 

“December” (To the tune of “I’ve been working on the Railroad”)
 
Oh the month of December
Is filled with holidays
Kwanza, Hanukkah, and Christmas are marked in special ways
Celebrating with our loved ones no matter how it’s done
Sharing gifts and lighting candles, we all have lots of fun
 
 
Places we went:
  • Sang “Jingle Bell Rock" in music with Noel 
  • Used an “Octoband” in movement with Jenna
 
Classroom Activities:
  • For snack we made Santa hats out of strawberries
  • We made decorations for our tree inside the Sun Room
 
Theme:
  • Christmas

  • AM Holiday party is Wednesday December 14 at 11:15am
  • PM Holiday party is Wednesday December 14 at 3:00pm

Books we read:
  • First Night of Hanukkah, by Cecily Kaiser
  • My Two Holidays, by Daniel Novack
 
Songs we sang: 

“Latkes”
A latke is a pancake, a golden pancake treat
And inside it is snowy white and very good to eat
On Hanukkah, on Hanukkah, a latke is a treat
Yum yum!
 
 
Places we went:
  • Sang “Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel" in music with Noel 
  • Read books in library with Jenna
 
Classroom Activities:
  • Tried latkes for snack on Wednesday
  • We decorated dreidels to hang on the outside board
 
Theme:
  •  Hanukkah
  • Theme next week is Christmas
 
Reminders

Dear Sun Room Parents,

We had a fun and exciting week here in the Sun Room. We have been learning all about friends and family this week. Take a look below at what we have been up to.

Books we read:
  • Llama Llama Gram and Grandpa, by Anna Dewdney
  • Me and My Family Tree, by Joan Sweeney
 
Songs we sang: 
 
"My Family"

Our families are people who care, that’s our family
They come in different sizes and different kinds and mine's just right for me
Yes mine’s just right for me!
 
 
Places we went:
  • Sang "Octopuses Garden" in music with Noel 
  • Played in the gym with tricycles!
 
Classroom Activities:
  • Last Friday two of our parents came in to help us celebrate Diwali
  • We decorated frames to hang our family photos in
  • Made apple pies on Thursday and enjoyed eating them for snack
 
Theme next week:
  •  Thanksgiving
 
Reminders
  • Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday Tuesday, November 15th 
  • Picture Day is November 16th

  • Worked on letter recognition while playing letter bingo
  • We collaged self portraits

Places we went
  • Went trick-or-treating around the school in our Halloween costumes
  • Had fun riding bikes in the second floor gym

  • Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, Illustrated by Mike Wohnoutka
  • I’m not Cute, by Jonathan Allen

Dear Sun Room Families,
​

This week we concluded our theme of “Halloween ” We want to thank everyone who joined us on Thursday for Curriculum Night and hope you found the evening informative as well as fun! We had a great time in the Sun Room and hope that you were able to get a feel for how we spend our days!
Class room Activities
  • The Sun Room had fun decorating silly green monsters
  • We also decorated our trick or treat bags with fun Halloween stickers

Places we went
  • Sang and learned new song with Noel
  • Visit the library and even got to take out books with Jenna

Books we read
  • The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything, by Linda Williams 
  • Go Away Big Green Monster, by Ed Emberly

Hello Sun Room Families!

We cannot express how happy we are that the children are doing so wonderfully! Thank you for all of your help and cooperation during this time. The children have done a spectacular job separating in part because of the great job you are doing!

We have been learning all about our school and having so much fun in the Sun Room. Here are a few highlights:

Classroom Activities
  • The Sun Room children kept very busy using dot markers to make placemats for snack. We've also made shiny Suns using tissue paper and glitter. 

​Songs We sang
  • “5 Happy Preschoolers” (finger play):

Five happy preschoolers ready to start (hold up five fingers).
The first one said, "Preschoolers are smart!" (wiggle thumb).
The second one said, "Let's sing a song." (wiggle pointer finger).
The third one said, "Can I sing along?" (wiggle middle finger).
The fourth one said, "I'll hand out the snack." (wiggle ring finger).
The fifth one said, "I can't wait to come back!" (wiggle little finger).
Five little preschoolers went to play, (hold up five fingers).
On their very first preschool day! (wiggle five fingers)
  • We also sang “A Name Song” (sung to the tune of “The Muffin Man”). “[Rosi]’s name begins with [R], Begins with [R], begins with [R]. [Rosi]’s name begins with [R] [R,R,R,R].
 
Books we Read
  • Owl Babies, by Martin Waddell
  • Pete the Cat, Rocking in my School Shoes, by Eric Litwin
  • Llama Llama Misses Mama, by Anna  Dewdney

Next week we will be learning about fall!
