Week of 1/14

Dear Star Room 2AM Families,

What a great week we had in the classroom! Here are some of the fun activities we enjoyed during classroom.

Theme this week:

• We continued our exploration of Winter this week. We reviewed some of the characteristics of the season before talking about different activities you can do in the snow. Some children offered up playing in the snow and sledding, while the teachers added in skiing, sledding and making snowballs. We then used a chart to vote for our favorite activity and count how many children liked each activity.
• We introduced classroom jobs this week as well. The children will rotate through weather watcher, snack helper, calendar helper and line leader. Make sure to ask your child if they had a job at school!

Books we read:

• The Mitten by Jan Brett
• Sledding by Elizabeth Winthrop

Songs we sang:

• “The Snowball Song”
• “The Weather Song”

Places we went:

• Julia and Janae are now settled into the art room. We were so excited to explore all the art room as to offer. We painted with bright colors at the easels, used crystal blocks at the light table and drew pictures with oil pastels.
• We read a Polar Bear Morning by Lauren Thompson and took out library books during Library with Lindsay
• We sang Baby Beluga, My Favorite Things, Do a Deer and more with Noel in Music 
• We played in 2nd floor indoor gym

Classroom Activities:

• In the spirit of celebrating winter, we created mittens to decorate our classroom door. The children glued colorful tissue paper onto mitten cutouts and cotton balls on the bottom to create a fleecy edge.

Reminders:

• Library books are due back next Tuesday 1/22/19 
• No school 1/21/19, MLK Day
• Winter Benefit Friday 1/25/19
