Week of 2/25

3/1/2019

Hello Sky Room Families!

It’s been another fun-filled week here in the Sky Room. This week, we learned about and sang many different Nursery Rhymes. Many of the Nursery Rhymes we sang involved counting, rhyming, and repetition.

Classroom Activities:
  • We made “Hickory Dickory Dock” clocks! Before starting the project, we asked the students what they think a clock is used for, to which a majority of them (very frankly) replied, “It’s how I know when I have to go to bed.” So, in order to create their clocks, the students were first given large paper plates to paint with a paint of their choice. They were then asked to identify the numbers 1-12, which were printed on white paper and cut out into individual squares. As the students found number 1, 2, 3, etc., they placed each number in the correct order onto their clock. After they completed identifying and counting out the numbers, they then placed the little paper mouse onto their clock! Our clocks are currently featured on the inside bulletin board.
  • Using contact paper and yellow construction paper cut into the outline of a star, the students used tissue paper squares and glitter to make “Star Light, Star Bright”. This activity showed the students how to practice being patient by taking one piece of thin tissue paper at a time to stick onto the contact paper. If they grabbed a bunch of the squares at once, they would not stick to the contact paper. This activity reinforced the idea of slowing down and taking their time to create a meaningful star using different colors of tissue paper squares. As a final step, they added some glitter to brighten up their stars!
  • We made some silly Humpty Dumpty's! For Humpty's body, we added on some googley eyes, a bow tie, mouth, arms and some feet. Using dot markers and gems, we decorated Humpty's pants. We helped the students to assemble Humpty by filling the inside of his body with cotton balls. Our Humpty Dumpty's are currently hanging out on the outside classroom board!
  • For a fun and tasty treat, we made fruit smoothies with our Rainbow Room friends! With a mixture of bananas, blueberries, strawberries, ice, and a splash of orange juice, the students devoured their smoothies.
