Dear Red Room Families,

It was a very exciting week in the Red Room! Here are some of our enchanting activities:
 
Theme:

• The Nutcracker and Ballet
• The class learned that people who dance in the ballet are called Ballerinas and Ballerinos (the Italian word for a male dancer).

Books We Read:

• We read five versions of The Nutcracker! We noticed that the stories had a lot in common but some details were a little different. For example, in some books the main character is named Clara while in others she is named Marie!

Centers:

• In the math center the children sorted different candies that might be found in the Land of Sweets. We then filled in a chart to determine which was the most amount of candy we had and which was the least.
• In the art center we created ballerina and ballerino outfits using our hands and paint.
• We recreated the Land of Sweets in the block center using colored circles and patterned tape.
• The children built nutcrackers using paper rectangle and circle shapes and wrote about them in the writing center.
• We worked on our fine motor skills by cutting out  paper snowflakes, ballerinas, and nutcracker shapes.
• We used the Code-A-Piller to get ready for our Hour of Code on Monday, December 3rd.

Dates to Remember:

• 12/11 9:30am-12:20pm ABT Studios trip. Every child must have one chaperone. We will meet and dismiss from the studio. There is no school on this day. Please no siblings!
• 12/20 8:30am-9:15am Holiday Party and last day of school before break! 2:30pm dismissal as usual.

Dear Red Room Families,

The Red Room began a new author study this week focusing on the works of Eric Carle. Here are some of the activities we worked on:
 

Eric Carle Books:

• Papa, Please Get the Moon For Me
• The Very Busy Spider
• The Grouchy Ladybug
• 10 Little Rubber Ducks
• Little Cloud
• The Mixed-Up Chameleon 

Centers:

• The class experimented with different ways to add up to ten in the math center. The children were given ten yellow ducks and had to divide them between two ponds. They then counted the amounts in each pond and discovered the different numerals that can be added together to total ten!
• The children also learned about time and sequencing when they made a clock with the different characters from The Grouchy Ladybug.
• Photos, paints, and popsicle sticks were used to recreate an  illustration from Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me  depicting the children climbing a ladder to the moon in the art center. It took us three days to finish the entire project!
• We also made a rainbow patterned chameleon, inspired by The Mixed-Up Chameleon.
• After reading Little Cloud the children mixed glue and shaving cream to make a puffy paint in the science center and then used it to make fluffy cloud pictures.

Dear Red Room Parents,

What a fun week in the Red Room! Here are some of the things we did:
 
Theme:

• Halloween!

 
Some Books We Read:

• A Beastly Story by, Bill Martin Jr. and Steven Kellogg
• Skeleton Meets the Mummy by, Steve Metzger

 
Centers:

• Our math center had the children working on addition when they rolled two dice and counted how many dots on each. They then added that total cumulative amount of goggly eyes onto a picture of a silly monster.
• We decorated our own Trick-or Treat bags in the art center.
• The kids built spooky haunted houses in the building center.
• The children mixed food coloring with pancake batter to make a colorful Halloween snack in the cooking center!

• We added another letter to our Alphabet Journal by drawing and writing words that start with the letter B!
