The February break is here and we will be closed Monday the 18th, Tuesday the 19th, and Wednesday the 20th for the Presidents Day long weekend. School resumes Thursday February 21st.
Theme: Valentine’s Day Letter of the week: P
Some books we read this week:
The Biggest Valentine Ever, by Steven Kroll
Click Clack Moo, I Love You, by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin
Valentine’s Day is…. by Gail Collins
Happy Valentine’s Day Mouse!, by Laura Numeroff
Our person of the week was Alexa. Thanks to her mom and dad for coming in this week and sharing all of Icy’s adventures with Alexa
This was a busy week filled with getting ready for the Valentines Day holiday. On Monday we talked about what Valentine’s Day is and ways we can show people we love them everyday.
Tuesday we began our super secret art project, making Valentine’s for our parents. We used marbles to paint our valentines. We dipped the marbles into paint and them put them in a shallow box along with a cut out heart. We then had to shake the box to get the marbles to move over the paper and create beautiful lines. It’s a lot harder than it looks and it was a great fine motor activity.
Our letter of the week was “P” and on Tuesday we read our Scholastic phonics book “The Pigs Picnic” by Helen Moore and practiced writing the letter with our Handwriting without Tears materials.
Our art project on Wednesday was making a paper pizza in honor of the letter P. The kids especially liked using the crinkly paper as “cheese”
Thursday was Valentine’s Day and at the end of the day we had our party. We gave out Valentines to our friends and then had Pizza in honor of the letter P and a special valentine’s cookie made by Karen as an extra treat.
Friday we continued learning about the letter “P” by reading the classic Eric Carle book, “Pancake, Pancake”. After reading the book the kids made their own pancakes to eat for snack and topped it with jam just like the little boy in the story.
We hope everyone has a wonderful Presidents Day long weekend and if you are travelling we wish you safe travels!
