Hi Everyone!

Reminders:

Thursday November 8th is our field trip to central park to look for leaves. Every child MUST have one adult to accompany them. It can be a parent, grandparent, caregiver, friend etc. but each child needs an adult. We will leave the school promptly at 9am and should be back between 10 and 10:30am

November 12th and 13th. No school for parent teacher conferences

Scholastic orders for November are due on Tuesday Nov. 6th. We have sent home the November scholastic fliers today in your child’s backpack. If you would like to order online please use our class code: JGQLZ

Theme: Pumpkins

Letter of the week:
T

Some books we read this week:

  • There’s a monster in your book, by Tom Fletcher
  • Wee Witches Halloween, by Jerry Smath
  • Room on the Broom, by Julia Donaldson
  • I Need my Monster, by Amanda Noll

Classroom Activities

  • This week we concluded our investigation of our pumpkins by cutting open our pumpkins to see what was inside. We first showed the children a banana and showed them how when you cut a banana open it is all banana, or “solid” inside. Then we cut open the pumpkin and showed them that it was “hollow” or “not solid” inside. We remembered that pumpkins float in water and wondered if maybe the reason it floats is that it is hollow inside? (spoiler alert… that’s why☺) After cutting open the pumpkins and looking inside, we decided to use our other senses to explore and use our noses to and our hands to touch. We found out that pumpkins were a bit “slimy” inside, a bit “cold” and a few of our friends thought it was “gooey”.  After we cleaned our pumpkins the teachers carved a Jack-o-lantern and proudly displayed it for Halloween.

  • Our person of the week was Gabby German and we welcomed her mom Clara and dad Peter to our classroom on Tuesday and they shared Gabby’s adventures with Icy and read “Pete the Cat goes to the beach” to the kids.

  • Our letter of the week was “T” and we read our scholastic book “When Tilly Turtle Came to Tea”, by Carol Pulpugliano-Martin

  • Wednesday was Halloween and we had a ball. We went trick-or-treating and had  a very special snack of oranges that looked like pumpkins (so cute!) and amazing muffins. Thanks to Avery’s mom Angela for sending in the treats.

  • Finally we ended the week by working on our scarecrows for our new bulletin board. The scarecrows are inspired by Mat Man, who teaches us the shapes that make up letters. We hope you enjoy the new board.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Karen, Rebeccca, and Marvin
