Week of 9/24

9/27/2018

Hi Everyone!

Reminders:

  • Curriculum Night Thursday October 4th. Our curriculum night is next Thursday night here in the Polar Bear Room. Our presentation is from 6 pm - 6:45 pm after which you will go to the Gym on the second floor for a presentation from the administration and our specialists from 7-7:30 pm.  Please be on time because as you can see our time is limited and we want to be able to answer all the questions you may have.
  • Scholastic Book Program – This fall, when you place an order of $25 or more on Scholastic.com you can pick a free book worth $5. I’ll be sending out the October flyers this week.
Theme: What is Fall?
Letter of the week: L

Some books we read this week:

  • A is for Autumn, by Robert Moss
  • Autumn’s first leaf, by Steven Metzger
  • Animal’s in Fall, by Melvin and Gilda Berger
  • Hello Fall, by Melvin and Gilda Berger
Classroom Activities

  • We have been so happy with how quickly all of our friends in the Polar Bear Room have adjusted to our routines and activities. It’s been a fantastic start to the school year!
  • This week was our first Letter of the week. We learned all about the letter L. We read the scholastic book “The Lamb who Loved to Laugh”, by Carol Martin. We found objects around the room that stated with the letter “L” and then presented them to our friends.
  • We began our exploration of Fall by comparing Fall and Summer. We talked about what was different between the two seasons. For example, summer is hot and Fall is cool. We then read several books about the season and learned more about what the animals do in fall and how the trees will begin to change.
  • For our art project this week we used red, yellow, green and orange watercolors to create beautiful fall leaves. We will be using the leaves for our new fall bulletin board
  • In our centers we added a new discovery box for the month. It is filled with dry oatmeal, cinnamon sticks, plastic apples, measuring cups and spoons, and tin cupcake and pie plates. It’s been a huge hit! The kids love playing, measuring and pretending to bake and the smell is absolutely delicious!
We hope you all have a great weekend!

Best,
Karen and Rebecca
