Dear Panda Room Parents,

We had a great week in the Panda Room learning all about Winter.

  • Umbrellabird's Umbrella, by Heather Feldman
  • Big Snow, by Jonathan Bean
  • The Reader, by Amy Hest

Classroom Activities:
  • Had our Letter of the Week “U”
  • This week the children used a bit of technology to make new placemats. Each child got to write their name on the iPad and decorate using various tools provided in the app. We saved, printed and laminated and have beautiful work to show for it... and eat on top of :)
  • During centers we revisited Mat Man and they are getting VERY good!!!
  • During classroom art the pandas began to learn about Hanukkah and used our fine motor skills to cut and create beautiful Menorahs.
  • We also used more of our cutting and gluing skills by working very hard on our auction project!!! We can't wait for you to see it at the Winter Benefit!!

Theme this week:
  • We talked about Winter
  • Next week we will learn about Winter Holidays Around the World

Reminders:
  • Holiday Party-- Info to Come

Have a great weekend!

Week of 11/5

11/9/2018

Dear Panda Room Parents,

We had a great week in the Panda Room learning all about Families and Homes.

Books we read:
  • Iguana on Ice, by Carol Pugliano-Martin
  • The Family Book, by Todd Parr
  • The Scramble States of America, by Laurie Keller
  • Home, by Carson Ellis

Classroom Activities:
  • Had our Letter of the Week “I”
  • It was a busy week in the Panda Room. We celebrated Diwali!!! We are going to learn more about Diwali in a few weeks when we learn about holidays around the world, however we took some time to talk about this joyous holiday. We listened to a brief story about Diwali and why we celebrate. It is always a good reminder to remember that good WILL triumph over evil and there is always light even in the most darkest places. We also made our own Rangoli Art :)
  • During centers we worked on different math skills. We learned to use a key to make our own graphs. The children used a visual key to create who lives in their homes. They are hanging on the bulletin board- check them out!!
  • During classroom art the pandas made bags for our leaf hunt.
  • We also worked on our cutting skills by cutting out homes and placing them in size order as well as cutting out animals and matching them to the homes they live in!

Theme this week:
  • We talked about Families and Homes
  • Next week we will learn about Thanksgiving

Reminders:
  • 11/12-11/13-- Parent Teacher Conferences
  • 11/15-- PICTURE DAY!!!
Have an excellent weekend!

The Panda Room Teachers

Week of 10/29

11/2/2018

Dear Panda Room Parents,

We had a great week in the Panda Room learning all about Halloween Bats and Spiders.

Books we read:
  • When Tilly Turtle Came to Tea,  by Carol Pugliano-Martin
  • Clifford's Halloween, by Norman Bridwell
  • Nightsong, by Ari Berk and Loren Long
  • Bats at the Library, by Brian Lies

Classroom Activities:
  • Had our Letter of the Week “T”
  • During centers we read Clifford's Halloween which ends by asking the reader what Clifford should dress up as. The children had to come up with an original idea, draw it and write it! This is an emergent reading skill that we will be working on all year.
  • In our math center the children learned that bats eat fruit. They were each given a number to practice number recognition and had to count that many pieces of fruit for their bats in a bat cave. This also helps with 1:1 correspondence
  • During classroom art the pandas did crayon resist watercolor paintings to make spooky spider webs
  • We also had a rocking Halloween party and went trick-or-treating... it was certainly a treat!!!

Theme this week:
  • We talked about Halloween, Bats and Spiders
  • Next week we will learn about Families and Homes

Reminders:
  • 11/9 - Leaf Hunt-- EVERY CHILD NEEDS AN ADULT
  • 11/12-11/13-- Parent Teacher Conferences
  • 11/15-- PICTURE DAY!!!

Have a great weekend,

The Panda Room Teachers
