Dear Koala Room Families,

I can’t believe that this was our last week in the Kola Room. We had a great week learning about Summer! Here are some of the fun activities:

Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about Summer.

Books We Read:
  • The Invisible String, by Patrice Karst
  • Should I Share My Ice Cream?, by Mo Willems
  • I Really Like Slop, by Mo Willems
  • When Summer Comes, by Robert Maas
  • At the Beach, by Trace Taylor
 
Centers:
  • We painted wooden flowers with glitter glue . 
  • We made “Mat Man” for the last time .
  • The children had fun building with “Magic Noodles“ and “Snapos”.
  • The children designed special summer t-shirts by using chalk pastels.
  • For science the children explored the classroom with magnets, it was so much fun for them to check what magnets can stick to.
 
Highlights:
  • We visited the Victorian Gardens last week!
  • For Music with Noel we sang Beatles songs.
       
The Koala Bear Teachers would like to say Thank You all for such an amazing year. It was wonderful experience to see your children learn and grow. We wish everyone a relaxing summer!

Dear Koala Room Families,

We had a great week in the Koala Room learning about Transportation! Here are some of the fun activities:
Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about Transportation.
  • We have so many amazing experts in The Koala Room. The children were sharing so many interesting things with their classmates about different kinds of transportation.
 
Books We Read:
  • Hop on Pop, by Dr. Seuss
  • My Subway Ride, by Paul Jacobs and Jennifer Swender
  • I’m Mighty , by Kate and Jim McMullan
  • Down by the Station, by Jennifer Riggs Vetter
  • Truck, by Donald Crews
 
Centers:
  • We used paper plates, pipe cleaners and tissue paper to make beautiful Hot Air Balloons. 
  • We practiced our lacing skills using strings and wooden animals.
  • We worked on “Alphabet Match-Up Puzzles”.
  • We had fun building with “Magic Noodles” .
  • We played with “Number-Bots and Letter-Bots”.
  • We made delicious spring sandwiches with cucumbers and tomatoes.
 
Highlights:
  • It’s so nice outside and the Koala Room children had so much fun on the roof taking care of our rooftop garden.

  • The Kola Bears made a chart of all the “Y” words they know and we used chuck boards to practice writing the letter “Y”

Dear Koala Room Teachers,

We had a great week in the Koala Room learning about Theater! Here are some of the fun activities:
 
Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about Theater.
  • We read Angelina on Stage, by Katharine Holabird and talked about what happens during the performance.

Books We Read:
  • Angelina on Stage, by Katharine Holabird
  • Dragons Eat Noodles on Tuesdays , by Jon Stahl
  • Koala and the Flower , by Mary Murphy
  • Tallulah’s Tap Shoes, by Marilyn Singer
  • The Thank You Book, by Mo Willems
 
Centers:
  • We used crayons, markers and colorful flowers to make special snack placemats. 
  • We practiced counting with button counting game.
  • The children used their strong finger muscles to pick up plastic fruit with chopsticks.
  • We had fine motor fun with “lace and trace” game.
  • We used unfix cubes to measure and build .
  • We made delicious grilled cheese sandwiches.
 
Highlights:
  • We had so much fun performing our play. The children were super excited to wear their costumes and face paint for their performance. Everyone did such a great job!

  • The Kola Bears made a chart of all the “X” words they know and we used chuck boards to practice writing the letter “X”
 
Important Dates:
  • May 31st Victorian Gardens Trip. Every child must be accompanied by one adult.

​We had a great week in the Koala Room learning about Theater! Here are some of the fun activities:
 
Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about Theater.
  • We worked on the back-drop for the production and learned what it means to bring a book to life
 
Books We Read:
  • The Tiny Seed, by Eric Carle
  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt , by Michael Rosen
  • Just Narwhal, by Lara Ede and Rosie Greening
  • The Book With No Pictures, by B. J. Novak
  • Mary Wears What She Wants, by Keith Negley
 
Centers:
  • We used pompoms, stickers, buttons, colorful paper to make beautiful puppets. 
  • We practiced counting with “Fishing for Numbers” game.
  • We put together floor puzzles.
  • We had fine motor fun with “loop and Learn” bands.
  • We played Match-A-Sound game.
  • We made delicious pancakes.
 
Highlights:
  • The children have been rehearsing their lines and songs, and they can’t wait for all parents to see their performance. Our performance is on May 16th at 9 am.

  • Henry Diaz
  • We loved learning about Henry and asking about his favorite things.

  • The Koala Room learned about Theater.

  • Gregory, the Terrible Eater, by Mitchell Sharmat
  • My Friend Is Sad ,by Mo Willems
  • Should I Share My Ice Cream?, by Mo Willems
  • Clifford’s Spring Clean-Up, by Norman Bridwell
 
Centers:
  • We worked on Spring sequence. 
  • We played matching game with letters and their sounds.
  • We played a dog/bone count and match game.
  • We had fine motor fun practicing with scissors.
  • We played Math Measuring game.
  • For cooking we made pizza bagels.
 
Highlights:
  • The children are supper excited to practice our performance. We learned what props are and how to use them on stage.

  • We loved learning about Reia and asking about her favorite things.

Dear Koala Room Families,

We had another amazing week at school! The weather has been improving and finally it feels like Spring. Here are some of the fun activities:

Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about Spring.
 
Books We Read:
  • Wolfie the Bunny, by Ame Dyckman
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle
  • The Year’s Garden, by Cynthia Rylant
  • The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, by Jon Scieszka
 
Centers:
  • We worked on Spring patterns. 
  • We made instruments from plastic pipes and the children pretended that they were in a marching band.
  • We made our beautiful April Mat Man.
  • The children used their strong finger muscles to pick up objects with chopsticks.
  • We played Memory Matching game.
  • For cooking we made fruit salad.
 
Highlights:
  • The Koala Room children are looking forward to practicing our play for the Theater Week, they love Pet the Cat books.

Welcome back after spring brake I hope everyone had amazing time. Here are some of the fun activities:
Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about Spring.

  • Tops & Bottoms, by Janet Stevens
  • If You Give a Pig a Pancake , by Eric Carle
  • The Listening Walk, by Paul Showers
  • Spring Things, by Bob Raczka
  • Hop Jump, by Ellen Stoll Walsh
 
Centers:
  • We worked on our spring sequencing project. 
  • We put together an alphabet match-up puzzle. .
  • We played a “Things that go together” game.
  • We had fine motor fun practicing with scissors.
  • We played Shape Matching game and Linking Letters Monkeys game.
  • For science we explored different things with magnifying glass .
 
Highlights:
        We had so much fun playing on the roof!
 
Person of the Week:
  • Kenzi Mejia
  • We loved learning about Kenzi and asking him about his favorite things. We had so much fun singing Karaoke with Kenzi.

We had another exciting week in the Koala Room. Here are some of the fun activities:
 
Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about Spring.

  • Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, by Virginia Lee Burton
  • Have You Seen My Cat?, by Eric Carle
  • Llama Llama and the Bully Goat, by Anna Dewdney
  • Spring Things, by Bob Raczka
  • Hooray for St. Patrick’s Day, by Joan Holub
 
Centers:
  • We worked on our spring art project, the children painted a beautiful spring painting using their fingers. 
  • We worked on Mat Man.
  • We played a Four Seasons Game.
  • The children used their strong finger muscles to pick up objects with chopsticks.
  • We voted to decide if we would play with parachute in the gym or work on obstacle course.
  • For cooking we made delicious tortillas .
 
Highlights:
  • We celebrated Rhea’s birthday!
  • We went to our monthly Musical Assembly!

​It’s cold outside but we had so much fun this week learning about the Five Senses. Here are some of the fun activities:
 
Theme:
  • The Koala Room learned about the sense of sight, hearing and the sense of taste.
 
Books We Read:
  • Sense Suspense, by Bruce McMillan
  • Gregory, the Terrible Eater, by Mitchell Sharmat
  • Sounds All Around, by Wendy Pfeffer
  • Hearing, by Lillian Wright
  • Subway, by Christoph Niemann
 
Centers:
  • We worked on our sense of sight by playing game “What is missing”. 
  • We worked on reading and storytelling skills by using sequencing cards.
  • We played a science discovery game using our senses.
  • We practiced our lacing skills using strings and wooden animals.
  • We put together a dinosaur floor puzzle.
  • For science we used our sense of taste and the children tried different food being blindfolded.
 
Highlights:
        We visited with Julia and Janae in Art!

  • Matilda Tracer
  • We loved learning about Matilda and listening to her favorite book!

Centers:
  • We worked on our sense of touch project using all different materials with different textures. 
  • We worked on reading and storytelling skills by using sequencing cards.
  • We played a five senses game and what goes together game.
  • We practiced the alphabet with alphabet match-up puzzles.
  • We practiced our lacing skills using string and wooden animals
  • For science we used our sense of smell and the children smelled different spices, fruits and vegetables
 
Highlights:
  • We learned new songs in Music with Noel!

  • We loved learning about Parker and asking him about his favorite things!
