Week of 11/5

11/9/2018

Dear Honey Bear Room Parents,

It’s been another awesome week in the Honey Bear classroom!  The children loved sharing about their families and learning about different types of homes.  Please read the update below on what the class did this week.

Theme This Week:
  • Families and homes.  Most of us live in apartment buildings!
  • The letter of the week was I.

Books We Read:
  • The Family Book, by Todd Parr
  • A House for Hermit Crab, by Eric Carle
  • Don’t Eat the Baby, by Amy Young

Places We Went:
  • Library with Lindsay.  She read Farfallina and Marcel by Holly Keller.
  • Central Park for our Leaf Hunt.
  • Gym 3.

Classroom Activities:
  • We made charts detailing how many people are in our families and if we live in either a house or an apartment.
  • The class made adorable family apple trees and colorful shape houses.
  • We had fine motor fun using tweezers and chopsticks.
  • The Honey Bears made a list of I words and did all of their HWOT activities.
  • We also played memory and matching games.
  • The Honey Bears started using scissors this week.  We tell the children to put their thumb in the small hole and the rest or some of their fingers in the big hole.  Then their thumb has to face the sun or up, while they start cutting.  We hope they will get a lot of scissor practice at school!
  • Ashley Thompson was our Person of the Week.  She was great telling us all about herself and her favorite things.  Ashley’s mom read Doc McStuffins, All Stuffed Up!  Then the children had to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.   They had a terrific time ripping paper and using band aids to help Humpty Dumpty.  Finally, the children tried Irish Soda bread and real Irish butter.  They also were able to take home some gummie snacks that Ashley’s grandmother brought all the way from Ireland.  Thanks so much Ashley!  You were awesome!
  • Next week the children will be learning about Thanksgiving.

Highlights:
  • We went on our Central Park Leaf Hunt.  The Honey Bears had a great morning collecting leaves.  When we returned to the classroom, we added the leaves we collected and the leaves we made a few weeks go to our painted tree trunks.  Our Fall trees are beautiful!

Looking Forward To:
  • November 12th and 13th – Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Wednesday, November 14th- Picture Day
  • Tuesday, November 20th- Thanksgiving Feast at 11:30 in the Honey Bear Room

Have a Terrific Weekend!

The Honey Bear Room Teachers
