Week of 10/22

10/26/2018

Honey Bear Weekly Newsletter
10/22/18

Dear Honey Bear Room Parents,

The children have had a terrific week here at Montclare!  Everyone is excited about Halloween and we can’t wait for our party.  Please see the update below about what the class was up to this week.

Theme This Week:
  • Halloween.  What we see and do!
  • H was the letter of the week.

Books We Read:
  • Go Away Big Green Monster, by Ed Emberly.
  • Happy Halloween Biscuit, by Alyssa Satin Capucilli.

Places We Went:
  • Art with Julia and Janae.  The Honey Bears made collages using only black, white and gray materials.
  • The roof and gym 2.

Classroom Activities:
  • The children made adorable bats out of coffee filters and clothespins.  We learned a new song about bats sung to Brother John:
Bats are sleeping
Bats are sleeping,
Upside down
Upside down,
Sleeping in the daytime,
Waiting for the nighttime,
Fly around,
Fly around

  • The class had fine motor practice by tracing spider webs and lacing pumpkins.
  • We made jack-o-lanterns with paper, foam, felt and buttons.
  • The Honey Bears put pumpkins in size order and made jack-o-lantern patterns.
  • Andrew Traut was our Person of the Week! He did a terrific job telling his friends about himself and his family. His Dad read Tip Tip, Dig Dig by Emma Garcia and Subway by Anastasia Suen.  Then we had a delicious snack of mini pancakes and maple syrup, Andrew’s favorite food!  Great job Andrew!
  • Next week, we will continue with Halloween and the letter of the week will be T.

Highlights:

  • The Honey Bears learned some interactive songs, including “The Spooky Walk.”
  • We made a class chart listing what we are dressing up as for Halloween.

Looking Forward To:
  • Wednesday, October 31st- Halloween Party in the Honey Bear room at 11:30.  Every child should have an adult please.
  • Thursday, November 8th- Leaf Hunt to Central Park.  Every child must have an adult.  The walk should take about an hour and we plan to leave at 9:00 a.m.
  • Monday and Tuesday, November 12th and 13th- Parent/Teacher Conferences.  Babysitting will be available for MCS students.

Have a terrific weekend!
