Week of 10/15

10/19/2018

Dear Honey Bear Room Families,

It’s been another amazing week for the Honey Bears!  The children are really getting into the swing of things here at school.  The class is having loads of fun with their friends.

Theme This Week:
  • Fall, leaves and trees.
  • The letter of the week was E.  The Honey Bears made a list of E words and used eggs to decorate the E page for their alphabet books.

Books We Read:
  • Autumn Leaves, by Gail Saunders-Smith.
  • How Do You Know It’s Fall, by Allan Fowler.
  • Fall Leaves Fall, by Zoe Hall.
  • Autumn Leaves are Falling, by Maria Fleming.
  • The Vegetables We Eat, by Gail Gibbons

Places We Went:
  • Library with Lindsay.  She read Mary McScary by R.L. Stein
  • Gym 2 for bike riding and running.

Classroom Activities:
  • We talked about leaves that you see in NYC, as well as squirrels and acorns.
  • The class played a squirrel/acorn counting game and had fine motor fun lacing leaves.
  • The Honey Bears painted leaves and tree trunks.
  • We made leaf patterns and rolled dice to count out leaves to put on a big tree!
  • The Honey Bears learned a new song sung to “My Fair Lady.”

Autumn leaves come tumbling down,
Tumbling down, tumbling down.
Autumn leaves come tumbling down,
In the Autumn.
Take a rake and pile them up,
Pile them up, pile them up.
Take a rake and pile them up,
And jump right in!

Highlights:
  • The Honey Bears had a great time walking over to the 97th Street Farmer’s Market.  They had a blast finding everything for our scavenger hunt!  When we returned to school, the children made butter and enjoyed fresh bread that we purchased at the Farmer’s market.  All we did was put a little bit of heavy cream in a glass jar and took turns shaking it to make butter.  Delicious!
  • Matman came for another visit!  The children love to build him while singing the song.

Looking Forward to:
  • Our Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 31st at 11:30 in the Honey Bear Room.
  • Our Leaf Hunt in Central Park.  Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Every child needs an adult please
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences November 12th and 13th.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Honey Bear Room Teachers
