Dear Honey Bear Families,

It’s been another terrific week for the Honey Bears and we are all hoping for some snow!  Please read the update below to see what the children have been up to. 
 
Theme This Week:
  • More about winter
  • The letter S
 
Books We Read:
  • The Jacket I Wear In The Snow, by Shirley Neitzel
  • When Winter Comes, by Nancy Van Laan
 
Places We Went:
  • The Art studio with Janae and Julia.  The children really enjoyed easel painting!
  • Movement with Lindsay.  The Honey Bears love to be animals and then to relax with yoga!
 
Classroom Activities:
  • We did all of our HWOT activities for the letter S.
  • We sorted things that were hot and things that were cold. 
  • The children played a mitten match game and made fabulous snowflake patterns.
  • We made a snowman sequence story and had to pick which snowman was different. 
 
Highlights:
  • We were so excited to be back in the art studio!
  • The children had fun as usual in gym2 and gym 3.
  • We had a visit from Matman!
 
Looking Forward To:
  • No school- Monday and Tuesday, January 21st and 22nd.
  • Cultures Celebration- Thursday, February 7th at 11:30 in the Honey Bear Room.  Every child must have an adult.

Dear Honey Bear Parents,

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  We hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break.  Please read the update below about what the children learned this week at Montclare.
 
Theme This Week:
  • Winter
  • The letter of the week was G.
 
Books We Read:
  • When It Starts to Snow, by Phillis Gershator
  • The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats
  • Snowballs, by Lois Ehlert
  • Snow Friends, by M. Christina Butler
 
Places We Went:
  • Library with Lindsay.  She read “My Lucky Day” by Keiko Kasza.
  • Gym 2  and gym 3 for bike riding, ball playing and building.
 
Classroom Activities:
  • We learned a new winter song sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star:
Wintertime brings lots of snow,
Chilly winds just blow and blow.
Snowflakes swirling through the air,
Twirling, whirling here and there.
Wintertime brings lots of snow,
Chilly winds just blow and blow.
  • The Honey Bears decorated snowflakes, made popsicle stick snowmen and new placemats for snack.
  • The children played a count and match snowflake game, put together snowflake puzzles and played a match the hat to the snowman game.
 
Highlights:
  • We had our first musical assembly of the year with Noel!  We heard lots of new songs and we also sang some songs we already know.
  • Next week, we will continue our unit on winter and S will be the letter of the week.
 
Dates To Remember:
  • Monday 1/21 and Tuesday 1/22- No school for Martin Luther King Jr. day and Professional Development.
  • Friday 1/25- Winter Benefit at The Lighthouse, Chelsea Piers.
  • Thursday 2/7- Cultures Festival in the Honey Bear Room at 11:30.  Every child needs an adult.
