Dear Garden Room Parents,
 
Below is an update on the many fun activities that we were engaged in this last week of school, as we learned about Father's Day!!!
 
 Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's!!!
 
Books we read:
  • Just Like Daddy, by Frank Asch.
  • My Daddy Snores, by Nancy H. Rothstein.
  • Over in the Ocean, In a Coral Reef, by Marianne Berkes.
  • Piggies in Pajamas, by Michelle Meadows.
 
Activities with Specialists:
  • In Music with Noel, we sang Going on A Bear Hunt and These are my Favorite Things.
  • In Movement with Lindsay we pretended we were on the beach, enjoying the sun, playing in the sand and having a beach party.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read Mommy’s Khimar, by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow, and There’s No Such Thing as a Dragon, by Jack Kent.
  • In Art we painted on the window using red, yellow and blue paint; we also enjoyed finding hidden treasure beneath the blue sand at the light table.
 
Classroom Activities:
  • We created fun collages of animals and insects – including dinosaurs, lady bugs, butterflies, pigs and sheep.
  • We practiced our lacing, on fun zoo and farm animal cut outs.
  • We made a cute surprise for our Daddy’s for Father’s Day!!
  • We created beautiful Summer Fun pictures – using beach balls, sandals, and sand castles.
 
Highlight:  We talked about Father’s Day and what special things we like to do with our Daddy.

Below is an update on the many fun activities that we were engaged in this week as we learned about zoo animals!!!
 
 
Books we read:
  • Animals Strike At The Zoo, by Karma Wilson.
  • Put Me in the Zoo, by Robert Lopshire.
  • Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. Eric Carle.
 
Activities with Specialists:
 
  • In Music with Noel, we sang On Top Of Spaghetti and Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
  • In Movement with Lindsay we pretended we were at the beach, we surfed, we swam, and danced to ‘Baby Shark’.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read Curios George Visits the Zoo, by Margret & H.A. Rey's.
  • In Art we made beautiful pictures using different shaped stampers with glitter paint, and we played in the sand at the light table. 
 
Classroom Activities:
 
  • We did the Dinosaur March around the classroom and we went on a Bear Hunt in the gym.
  • We played Zoo Bingo, seeing how many animals we could match on our card.
  • We created a colorful spotted leopard using yellow paint and pom poms, like the one in the book Put Me in the Zoo.
 
Highlight: Going to the Central Park Zoo with our teachers and friends!!

Below is an update on the many fun activities that we were engaged in this week as we learned about all the fun letters in the alphabet!!!
 
Books we read:
  • ABC Amimal Jamboree, by Giles Andreae
  • Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault
  • Animals A to Z, by David McPhail
  • Eating the Alphabet – Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z, by Lois Ehlert
 
Activities with Specialists:
  • In Music with Noel, we sang and read along to We All Sing With the Same Voice, by J. Philip Miller and I Don’t Want to live on the Moon, by Jeff Moss.
  • In Movement with Lindsay we took turns playing the accordion, ­we practiced our yoga poses and had a fun dance party.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read Bam and Kero’s Sunday, by Yuka Shimada.
  • In Art we created lovely pictures by finger painting using various color paint and we added sparkly colorful glitter.
 
Classroom Activities:
 
  • We each decorated the first letter of our name using pom poms and sequins.
  • We created a silly Zebra, by decorating the letter ‘Z’ and adding fun colorful eyes.
  • We used different color pieces of foam to collage a letter of the alphabet.
  • We enjoyed playing with alphabet magnets and making the sound of each letter.
 
Highlight:  We enjoyed working on the alphabet train puzzle together as a class.

  • In Movement with Lindsay we played with paper and plastic plates, ­sliding on them, and wearing them on our head, hands and feet.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read A Big Mooncake for Little Star by Grace Lin.
  • In Art we created lovely pictures using different patterned rollers with various color paint and we played with colorful geo-shapes at the light table.
 
Classroom Activities:
  • We created a colorful creepy crawly caterpillar using pom poms and a clothes pin.
  • We made a fun spring flower using pasta, glitter, and pipe cleaners.
  • We created beautiful spring time rainbows and unicorns, using fun pastel colors.
  • We worked on our Mother’s Day surprise!!!

  • In Art we collaged using different textured materials and glue, and we played with colorful connectors at the light table.
 
Classroom Activities:
  • We worked collaboratively with our friends building with legos.
  • We enjoyed playing on the roof – climbing the jungle gym, sliding, and playing in the little house with our friends.
  • We created a beautiful butterfly using different color foam and tissue paper.
  • We made fun spring time pictures using pastel colored chalk and colorful spring stickers.
 
Highlight: We began working on our Mother’s Day surprise!!!

  • In Music with Noel, we sang  "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and  "Take Me Out To the Ballgame."
  • In Movement with Lindsay, we enjoyed a fun Easter Egg hunt, and pretended to be monkey’s jumping on the bed as we sang and danced to Five Little Monkey’s Jumping On The Bed. 
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read Every Friday by Dan Yaccarino.
  • In Art we finger painted using red and blue paint to create a beautiful purple, we played with different colored foam shapes, and sparky pink sand at the light table.
 
Classroom Activities:
 
  • We created a delicious muffin, using colorful tissue paper, gems and glitter.
  • We fed our hungry caterpillar, delicious vegetables – using broccoli, corn, peas and carrots stickers.
  • We made a cheesy personal pizza, using black buttons for olives, brown foam for mushrooms, red felt squares for pepperoni, and yellow strips for cheese.
 
Theme: FOOD – More Fun Foods – Pizza and Muffins
 
Highlight: We enjoyed the all-school Assembly, singing along with Noel to our favorite songs.

  • In Music with Noel, we sang Take Me Out To The Ball Game and It’s A Small World After All.
  • In Movement with Lindsay, we enjoyed playing with flowing colorful scarves and we all showed our dance moves during free dance.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend, by Dan Stantat.
  • In Art we stamped using various colored paints, creating beautiful designs; and we had fun digging in the sparkly pink sand at the light table.
 
Classroom Activities:
 
  • We created a juicy strawberry, using red tissue paper and black beads for seeds, yum yum! 
  • We made a happy banana with big googly-eyes, then added silly wiggly legs and arms.
  • We created colorful spring flowers using pink, yellow, lime green, pink and orange dot markers.
  • We enjoyed a fruity snack time having strawberries, watermelon, blueberries and clementines with our snack.
 
Highlight: Together as a class we enjoyed learning more about our class pet Alpaca (Avalon/Max).

It was great having all the children back after Spring Break. We had a wonderful time this week as we learned about vegetables! Below is an update on the many fun things we learned.:

  • The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food, by Stan & Jan Berenstain
  • Oliver’s Vegetables, by Vivian French
  • Gregory, the Terrible Eater, by Mitchell Sharmat
  • Planting a Rainbow, by Lois Ehlert
 
Activities with Specialists:
  • In Music with Noel, we sang Old McDonald Had a Farm and Mr. Sun, and we enjoyed reading Puff The Magic Dragon.
  • In Movement with Lindsay, we enjoyed the climbing wall, going through the tunnel, using the balance beam and twirling with the hula hoops.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read Inch by Inch, by David Mallett, and sang Wheels on The Tuk Tuk, by Kabir and Surishtha Sehgal.
  • In Art we enjoyed painting with various colors of water color paint and we built many exciting structures using shapes at the light table.
 
Classroom Activities:
  • We created a crunchy broccoli, using green pom pom, green tissue paper and sparkly green glitter.
  • We made a happy carrot using orange paint, colorful goggly eyes, then we added wavy green hair.
  • We each made our own vegetable plate – choosing either broccoli, corn, peas, carrots or eggplant – delicious!!
  • We had cucumber, tomato, sweet peppers and carrots with our snack.
 
Highlight:
  • As a class we explored with our eyes, hands and our mouth – tasty vegetables – carrots, tomatoes, sweet peppers and cucumbers.

We had a great week in the Garden Room, as we continued learning and singing different nursery rhymes!!
 
Below is an update on the many fun things we learned this week:
 
Books we read:
  • Hey, Diddle, Diddle and other Favorite Nursery Rhymes Illustrated by Hannah Wood
  • Row Row Row Your Boat, Told and Illustrated by Iza Trapani
  • Mary Had a Little Lamb, Illustrated by Liza Woodruff 
 
Activities with Specialists:
  • In Music with Noel, we sang It’s A Small World After All and Doe-A-Deer.
  • In Movement with Lindsay, we hopped around like kangaroos and collected colorful ‘hats’, and we practiced using the hula hoops.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read The Crayon Box That Talked, by Shane DeRolf.
  • In Art we built various structures using colorful shapes at the light table, we enjoyed working with clay using different tools, and we practiced our drawing on the dry erase boards.
 
Classroom Activities:
 
  • We sang many nursery rhymes including Mary Had a Little Lamb, This Little Piggy, and Little Miss Muffet.
  • We created Mary’s Little Lamb, by gluing soft white cotton balls together, and we added eyes and the feet.  
  • We made Itsy Bitsy spiders, using a toilet paper roll, black paint and shimmery blue glitter, then we added silly colorful eyes to our spiders.
  • We used fun animal stamps with colorful stamp pads, to create beautiful pictures.
 
Highlight: We enjoyed going to the school-wide assembly and as a class we spoke about the many fun things we will do over the spring break!!

  • I’m a Little Teapot, by Iza Trapani
  • First Picture Nursery Rhymes, Illustrated by Jo Litchfield
  • If You’re Happy and You Know It (Jungle Edition), by James Warhola
 
Activities with Specialists:
 
  • In Music with Noel, we sang The Ants Go Marching and There Are Seven Days.
  • In Movement with Lindsay, we played our instruments along to the rhythm book – Man Gave Names to All The Animals, by Bob Dylan.
  • In Library with Lindsay, we read Anansi The Spider by Gerald McDermott.
  • In Art we continued working on our ceramic tiles, by adding our handprint in a fun color, and we enjoyed playing with water beads at the light table.
 
Classroom Activities:
 
  • We sang many nursery rhymes including Twinkle Twinkle, Humpty Dumpty, and Itsy Bitsy Spider.
  • We created bright twinkling stars, using sparkly gems and glitter.
  • We helped to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, by gluing the pieces of his shell together, and putting on his arms and legs.
  • We practiced using scissors to cut different color strips of paper.
 
Theme: Nursery Rhymes
 
Highlight:
  • We talked about the fun ways we enjoyed our snow day – sledding, making snow balls, and creating snow angels.
